I got my son (19 years old) a PSP and he really likes it. The only draw-backs are:
1. there isn't any hard drive so you have to invest in Pro-duo sticks for all your music, photos and downloaded movies. From what I'm told, a movie takes around 1GB-I guess it also depends on what format the movie is in.
2. It's not very compact

He likes it mostly for the games and UMD movies. He has a 512 pro duo for his music and seems happy with it.

i love psp's. the screen on them are large and very good quality. the sound is good too, but could be better. they do need memory sticks, because they have no internal harddrive. you can play games, go on any wireless internet network, wirelessly link with your friends, watch UMD movies, and store movies and pictures and listen to music. they are really great, but i would wait until a newer handheld system came out if i were you. psp's have been around for a while now, so i believe some other brand would come out with a newer gaming system that copies some of PSP's functions.
