The answer is no. If you are coming to the UK from south Africa and your nationality is south African and you are coming just to visit then you don't need a visa.
However, to be granted entry you need to satisfy the immigration rules. please go to the website www.ukvisas.gov.uk and click on "do I need a UK visa" for more information.
however, I think it is always best to check with the british embassy in your country before you leave and if possible apply for and obtain a visa before you leave your country.

If you are South African and with no direct ancestry (which means neither of you're parents or grandparents are from UK, and you have a SA (green) passport and not a UK (maroon) passport) then yes, you do need a visa.
You can get a holiday visa that is valid for 6 months from the embassy in Pretoria.
If you are under 30 years of age you also have the option for a "Working Holiday Visa" which means you can work while you travel (for a limited time) to fund you're travels. This is a good option if you want to backpack through UK or Europe.

As a south african citizen, you can live up to 6 months in the UK without a visa. If you however would like to stay longer, I would suggest you get one....and just to be on the safer side of things. Should you require more info, hows about visiting the British Embassy and finding more information.

Yes you will need a visa to visit the U.K., the same as we need a visa to visit South Africa. You will have to contact your nearest British Embassy to apply for one.
