What was Intelligent Design? What are the different theories of Evolution? I'm doing a paper for my Astronomy class and needed a little help.

Intelligent Design is not Science as it cannot be falsified (meaning there is no evidence that could exist which could disprove the idea) and because it makes no testable predictions.

If it's for astronomy class then the Theory of Evolution by Natural Selction only refers to life. Maybe you need to look in to the Big Bang? Here's some links:

Intelligent Design is a speculative explanation for the existence of biological systems that seem to be so "irreducibly complex" that it would seem unlikely for them to have evolved. The Intelligent Design explanation is that for such systems to have come into existence, they must have been designed and implemented by an intelligent being or beings. Intelligent Design is not a scientific theory. It is a speculation or conjecture.

There's really no different theories of evolution, just the one.
Variant alleles in a population appear as a result of mutation or chromosomal events.
These can become more or less common within the population as a result of:
More mutation / chromosomal events
Gene flow (formerly known as migration)
Isolation / genetic drift
Selection (natural selection, sex selection, 'artificial' selection.)

Over a very long period of time, an isolated population may have accumulated enough differences from the pre-isolation population that it may have become another species -- unable to breed naturally with its "cousins."

God vs. Science

God is sitting in Heaven when a scientist says to Him, "Lord, we don't need You anymore. Science has finally figured out a way to create life out of nothing. In other words, we can now do what you did in the beginning."

"Oh, is that so? Tell me," replies God.

"Well," says the scientist, "We can take dirt and form it into the Likeness of You and breathe life into it, thus creating man."

"Well, that's interesting. Show me."

So the scientist bends down to the Earth and starts to mold the soil.

"Oh no, no, no," interrupts God. "Get your own dirt!"

I agree with willutellme.

But I do want to compliment you on getting one thing right: Using the past tense in asking about Intelligent Design.

What you need is to do some research instead of asking unqualified people for answers.
