Teams that win 83 games do not win the World Series.
Teams that have worse records after the All-Star break than the Pirates do not win the World Series.
Teams that let 8½-game September leads turn into half-game September leads do not win the World Series.
Teams that have the 13th-best record in baseball do not win the World Series.
Teams that don't figure out who the closer is until Sept. 27 do not win the World Series.
Teams that don't listen to all of the above crap and actuall y believe they can win do win the world series. Problem solving is 90% attitude. Losers let things happen. Winners make things happen.

How to motivate a team who was inundated with criticism, losing streaks, "underdogs who backed into the series/don't deserve to be there" comments, "iffy" pitching, and sporadic offense and use all that to win the Series in front of the home crowd. This includes uniting any number of individual agendas and egos to accomplish a common goal to get the St Louis fans their 10th World Championship. (I guess LaRussa will change his number to 11 next year?)
This was a lesson in leadership by LaRussa, Dave Duncan, Dave McKay, Hal McRae, Jose Oquendo, Jim Edmunds, Albert Pujols, David Eckstein and some others.
