Rockets are very demanding on fuel, making them cost prohibitive and they are not very good on the environment.

Remember that rockets engines are basically a "controlled explosion" that propels an object into high velocity projectories. Even if fuel and the environment were no concerns it would be difficult to control the rocket (in comparison to the way we control an automobile). Starting and stoping the engine, controlling velocity, etc. are challenges that we would face.

We have a hard enough time keeping control of our cars. In rockets we would all run into each other from behind at once.
