It is how much child support your CHILDREN are entitled to, not YOU. Remember that! . . . and there are calculators for every state or lawyers to figure that out.
Also, it is NOT 30%-40% of what the man makes. That is ludicrous, considering whatever parent does not have custody still must have enough to live comfortably.
They base it first on who has custody, then they take into consideration how much money EACH parent or household makes, how much time EACH parent has the child(ren) in a year, then they deduct expenses for EACH parent (that would include children outside the marriage or relationship, daycare, insurance), and they come up with a fair and reasonable amount for EACH parent to contribute and whichever parent has the most to contribute pays the other parent the difference.
Oh and remember, the other parent can have you audited by the state if they suspect foul play, so make sure you don't lie. There are legal consequences for committing fraud, even to get child support.
The best thing to do is remember that it's all about your children, not about money and definitely not about getting back at your ex.

I just wanted to say someone listed a site to calculate around how much child support one may have to pay, it was wrong when I did it because my husband is disabled he has 3 children from a previous marriage his ex wife works and makes more than what he draws a month and he only pays 65.00 a month it said on there he would have to pay 210 a month. But everyone else is right that is completely up to the judge what one will pay for support...

Child support have guidelines/formulas that they take into consideration when deciding what the amount will be. Its all taken into account with what each person makes and the needs of the child. I feel that taking into consideration the above mentioned things, it should be fair and all about the child.

Coming from someone who does pay, you will probably get more than you really need, unless you are a decent person and allow your ex-spouse enough to live a decent life. Oh, and to CNS, I pay my ex directly and on time. My kid means everything to me and she gets what she has coming to her. But her mother uses it for herself instead of for the kid and theres not a thing I can do about it, heck of a system we have.

Where I live, they look at the man's income and how many children he needs to support. There is a chart that is available through the courts here.....

Depends on your state, how many children, usually it's 30% of his paycheck. And make sure it's taken directly from his pay don't rely on him to send it . Sorry honey.
