I keep hearing about the great medical plan in Canada. My Canadian freind ( he works for me) tells me the medical plan started out great but is running into trouble. His mother lives in Sherbrook.Canada & goes to the hospital in Burlington Vermont because she has been put on a waiting list because she has cancer caused from smoking. He said a lot of people are put on the list if their illness is due to some doctor saying it was their fault they got sick. This encludes people who are grossely over weight or have mental problems. I had heard about the long lines but did not know why. If what my friend says is right, Do we want the same system because we will run into the same problems.Do we want our goverment to say who gets help & when?

I know we need help but is this the way to go. I know some of my business friends say if the goverment takes over health care they will cancel the insurance for theire employess & let the goverment take care of them. I will not because I feel this is something I owe them . But I sure could use some help with the cost.

Hillary, like every dictator before her, swears, her "program" will be different.
The question one must ponder is: has socialism ever worked before?
God help our country if that woman gets into power.

As a Canadian who now works in the US I've seen both systems. I'm also a health care professional. And I see little difference between the two (from a consumer point of view). Except Americans don't have the choice where to go, their insurance tells them. And if you think there is no waiting for health care in the US then call up your HMO and tell them you want to see an oncologist. See when you can get an appointment.

There will never be a switch to socialized medicine in the US, so no fear. There is just too much coroporate interest in keeping private insurance. Whole industries are arranged out of insurance, utilization review, mediation and legal battles. More than a third of any health care cost goes to non-clinical staff. Where would those people work?

Basically, in America they will with hold you from the organ donor list if you have been the cause of your own organ failure. Yet, if you have the money to get an organ, despite your attempt to destroy your own organs, they will put you on a list. I bet if your friend offered cash money under the table to her Canadian doctors to put her on an organ list they would accommodate her. There is no perfect system.

Organs are on high demand and doctors are obligated to first give small children and people who take care of themselves. This is why stem cell research is so important.

Further, If you want to criticize Canada's health care system, lets take a look at the U.S.....

In America someone with say, a bacteria infection can't get medication unless they have health insurance or until they have such an infection their lives' are at stake and they have to go to an emergency room and beg for help on the medical bill. Then they still have to have to have enough money pay for the prescription of the medication.

Good Luck and Take Care
