I held a bird for the first time when I got my parrot 6 months ago - and it was a wonder I thought I would never experience in my life...I was 33 the first time I held a bird. How about you?

I use to buy Parrakeets for my mother when I was a kid. Biggest thrill was to watch the glow in my mother's eyes after I trained the bird to jump on my finger or shoulder from it's cage when I snapped my fingers and Mom was able to do the same thing. I loved seeing a smile come from my mother.

I don't understand how someone can hunt doves - They couldn't do it if they had ever felt the wonder of holding a living bird perched on their finger... I held a parrot too for the first time a few years ago - and I'll never forget it. It is still a wonder to hold my bird and she is not afraid of me and she just sits there and looks at me and makes her little noises. It's amazing.

I can't remember a time when I haven't handled birds at least every now and then.
I would very much have liked to have been a fly on the wall when you finally got round to it though :o)

i was 7 when i held a baby bird that fell out of a nest.

yeah i was around 5 when i caught my first bird (it was a stray pet) It was a beautiful yellow bird and i named it buddy. Then my parents put it in the paper and the owners came and got him, i was sad. Then about 10 years later i got a lizard and named him buddy and i accidently broke his neck and killed him.

I was 6, and that was amazing. My dad has canaries, so I get to do it anytime I wish, I just love the feeling of holding a tiny bird.

I went on a picinic when I was about 8 years old. I took some crumbs from our lunch, and held them out. After a while, a bird landed on my hand. It was awesome!!

Sure, I've held a parrot. Been nipped by one too. It wasn't nice.
