What are encrypted buttons mean with pay pal?

While using freewebs.com, I am trying to create my pay pal payment buttons . What does this message mean?

The seller accepts encrypted website payments only. You cannot pay the seller through un-encrypted buttons. Please contact your seller for more details.

Your button has to be hosted on a "HTTPS://" server.
