I'm a Metal fan, Heavy, Nu-metal, Rock...But i'm very laid back in nature, so much that if a laid back any more i'd fall over! The music doesn't make me feel aggressive in any way.

Sorry but I like the music for what it is "Performance & Musical Quality". Those people who think it is violent music probably listen to Classical & Opera which are normally based around war & death themes, now there isn't any aggression there eh?????

I did a study on this subject in high school psychology. To the best of our efforts we found no correlation between agressive music and behavior. We had a control group who had no music all day. We had another roup who had slow classical music to listen too all day. And we had the 3rd group who endured hard core death metal all day. We then gave them all the part of the standardized IQ test of the time (15-20 years ago) , justthe drawing and shape recognition part. Our reasoning was that the aggressive crowd would likely have more deviant drawing. What happened was that we found no difference as far as aggression exhibited by any 1 group.

Why would we be aggressive???

The biggest thing that stands out for metallers is the fact that they we are loners really. What do you think we will do - stare you to death or something? Tattoo you or pierce you?

The big crowds that you see on the streets today are emos & their nothing to be bothered by.

If I were to say that the biggest group of music fans that are likely to be aggressive has to be rap fans, but that is just my own opinion not a judgement.

I'm a complete & utter metal head & I am a tattooed & pierced nurse (as are many of my metal/goth mates) - you couldn't get a more caring profession than that :-)

No, they are just hiding behind their music. I have 2 heavy metal friends and they are the softest characters I have ever seen. And almost all of the heavy metal fans have the same taste for everything. Same point of view. You won't believe how alike they are! It is like discovering a new brand of people! A collection!

I always thought us metal fans to be quietly superior and only agressive in the mosh pit, and then its by choice.
I have been mysteriously avoided for years and for what...wearing black?!
I think its a misconception. The music itself may sound agressive, but then so is a lot of rap and hiphop stuff, especially the lyrics. More so I believe.
I would be more afraid of agression coming from groups of chavs than groups of metallers.

I don't think there is a link. I like old metal (Not necessarily Heavy) like AC/DC , Black Sabbath , Motorhead , KISS etc but I am and most of not aggressive (by the exception of one at times) I guess music is a 'drug' which realises something in people.

I think metal heads are cool.I like heavy metal, but I'm not an agressive person and I know many other persons who aren't "bad" just because they listen to hard rock.Don't judge persons by their appearence.

Metal is fast, loud, and powerful, just like us. In a way, we're like our own gang. Where I live, there are constant brawls between metalheads and the losers who are into the hardcore scene.
