I am writing a persuasive essay for school. My thesis states that English is deteriating because of class, media, and the internet. I have to write ten pages and I could use help finding sources. Thanks.

I do not need help with my grammar or spelling, nor am I writing a paper looking for the faults in rhetoric. I am writing about the decline of American English, spoken and written.

I am afraid Mr. Dotcom that you, yourself are a prime example. You ask such a serious question yet do not have the decency to press the Check Spelling. Yes, sir, indeed, the English language as written by Americans, is DETERIORATING.

A cut and paste of a typical chat room discussion will show how kids have learned to misspell by leaving out a few letters in words and sometimes substituting other letters or numbers instead.

I see questions on here loaded with these things. They don't understand why people ask them to spell correctly. I would love to see what a school essay looks like these days, but I don't know anyone that's a school teacher.

Is it really degrading or is it just changing? After all Shakespeare made up some words. If you think about it English today is a completely different language from the old English.

Maybe this is a thought you could somehow use to see possible arguments with your paper.

The way kids write these days is absolutely horrifying. They don't bother with capital letters; they don't bother to use the computer to check their spelling, and they're just plain sloppy. Recently one was bragging on Yahoo Answers that he was going to win the Noble Prize.

I think part of it is that kids who grew up around computers think that if it's good enough for a computer, it's fit for human consumption.
