If you have to ask, you're pretty much there.

Every person is different, every person has their own saturation point, every person has their own line that has been crossed.

Generally speaking, I would say that divorce is the only solution if your spouse has been abusive in any way; emotional/verbal abuse can sometimes leave worse scars than physical abuse. I would not stay with someone who degrades me/my self esteem, is a bully, is non-supportive of my hopes and dreams, is a cheater, is a substance abuser, is corrupt or hateful towards me. Double on all of that if there are children involved.

How YOU know? Look at yourself in the mirror, and ask yourself - does this person make me feel loved, cared for, nurtured, happy? Do I really want to spend the rest of my life feeling as bad/sad/mad as I do right now - and have been for as long as I can remember?

When? When you've tried everything you know how to do to make it work and you're still left feeling lonely, defeated, and hopeless.

Marriage is supposed to be a balance. If you can't remember the last time you laughed together, or shared a special moment, or looked at each other with love and promise, then, it's time to take a good, hard look at where things are headed. Sometimes, sadly, divorce is the only real solution.

this is how i would sum it, if you would rather walk away from all your home, belongings, and friends that you have taken so long to gather, Rather than spending another night in the arms of the person you told that you would all ways be there for? then the time is right and set a appointment for your lawyer. and please let him know how you feel and what your going to be doing, the both of you should be old enough to walk down this road together and put your past behind you for the only thing you have to look forward to is a new beginning without each other to fall back on when at times you need someone to hold your hands. good luck and please read between the lines here and find the path that will put you on the high road.

When you have been betrayed by an extramarital affair.
When your spouse beats you.
When they are mentally abusive.
All other excuses are not acceptable. Marriage is forever. There are vows exchanged. It is sacred. If two people are willing, there is always a way to work things out. Try putting God in the center of your marriage. Pray for your spouse and with your spouse every day.
For other excuses, find a way to work out your problems with a marriage counselor, a pastor, or try sitting down and talking to your spouse. There is no excuse for giving up on a spouse because you are just tired of the same person.

When you have exausted other options (counseling, working together). And when you are paying with your dignity and self worth, more than you are getting paid back in love and support.

In order for a marriage to heal and grow, both partners have to make effort. if only one is willing, then a divorce might be the best answer.

If you have kids, remember that they pay the price. Coming from a broken home is better than living in one. The best gift to a child is a loving and accepting relationship with your partner, whether you are married or not.
