What kinda of long distance service on your cell do you have? Does it cover international calls? If so, then use your cell.

You don't need to exchange money. Seriously, everywhere you go will take US currency. If you do need pesos somewhere, you can find a place in Cabo to make an exchange. Plus most places take credit cards, and your card company will give you the current rate and post it to your bill in US dollars. Heres a trick that a lot of places use to fool americans and get a better exchange rate. (typically night clubs do this). They price things in US dollars then have a high exchange rate. This is actually bad for you if you pay in pesos because it takes more pesos to pay for $1 worth of stuff. If they have to give you change, they will give you US currency as much as they can, because they would have to give you more pesos per dollar then the actual exchange rate from a bank. As for good places to go: Go to a place called the Giggling Marlin. Its a restaruant during the day and a night club at night. During the day they will hang you up by your feet in front of a picture so it looks like you are a fish and there's a picture of a marlin that is holding you up. Its fun and pretty cheap, it makes for some good pictures. Other than that, just look for stuff you want to do, there's plenty of shopping, several golf courses, several night clubs, and plenty of things like renting jet-skis, parasailing, and fishing trips to do. Contact your hotel for information on how to get there from the airport. Most places have a shuttle. If not, you can take a taxi. There is a bus run that runs from downtown Cabo up the freeway where all the hotels are, but I don't remember if it goes all the way up to the airport. Edit: I should add that you shouldn't exchange money at the airport. You can if you have to, but you will get a horrible exchange rate. I did this and I lost about $20 because of the poor exchange rate (in other words, I could have gotten the same number of pesos for $20 less at a bank).

Check first if your carrier has service in Mexico, I know Verizon does.
The best way to call back home is buying a long distance card, back in your country that have a Mexican access number, AT&T is very good, or any other company, and get the access number from their web site, they should start with 001 800. You can use it in any public Telmex phone, they are everywhere.
You can buy Telmex calling cards down here, it will cost 5 pesos per minute (about 55 c Canadian).
Enjoy Cabo

You are right, most pay phones in Cabo (mexico) have crazy rates for calling Canada. I've heard people get home with bills for $15 per minute! Your best bet is to call collect....or even cheaper...go to an internet cafe and email someone instead.
Also, you may not be able to use your cell phone in Mexico until you activate your international calling. I believe the roam charges may be high as well. Check with your carrier for road post first but I think its about the same price as to call collect. Have a great trip!!

Yes, take your cellphone. Never travel internationally without having some reliable method for getting in touch with people from home. Make sure you call your carrier several weeks before you depart and tell them to turn ON your international calling, as it probably isn't enabled automatically. Avoid using it for sure, because it will be very expensive. Keep it turned off, but with you, so that all calls go directly to your voicemail, but you have an emergency communication method if you need it. Also, make sure everyone knows not to call you unless there is an emergency, so that you don't risk a huge cellphone bill upon your return. Have fun, Cabo is gorgeous!

If yours is a GSM cellphone you can take it and buy a SIM card of Telcel (Mexican largest cellphone provider) for just $10.00 American dollars.

You have to ask the prices to your service provider, but even if it is too expensive i recommend you to take it with you for any emergency.
