Before you can do anything you have to pass and obtain your food hygeine certificate from the local authority. Without that you cannot sell food. Then you need to look at buying not only a food van but the pitch as well. It can be costly to set up at first. Try looking in somewhere like Loot or exchange and mart for ideas and costs. Good luck x

It depends on what your state and local health laws are purchasing a food wagon is expensive to begin with but there are a lot of ways to apply the food selling idea. I have used several and have done very well with them one of which is contact a local auctioneer and set up for them selling donuts and coffee or sweet rolls to pre auction lookers and then lunch items and fruit sodas and water by the bottles. Pre packaged items like honey buns, Little Debbie's, can soda, individual bags of chips, pretzels or nuts sell well and you don't have health law problems. In the Hot , Hot months just standing on the corner with bottle water iced down in a clean Ice cooler sells well where there are crowds of people walking by such as on the 4th of July. If you have the funds to do so buying a food truck or ice cream truck, and with the food finding a factory that does not have a cafeteria or go to construction sights where food is often difficult to get is a good bet.

Talk to your Trading Standards Department and see what by-laws and restrictions are placed on mobile food businesses 1st each area is slightly different.

Then make sure you have done all the Health and Safety, Catering courses.

Then check with your local business centre to see if any one may be thinking of giving up and wishes to sell.

My husband was researching this idea at one time. They are expensive to get up and running but if you can do it the pay off is huge. I would definitely consider it. If you decide to do this email me and I will give you the information my husband found.

Get your business license, food handler's certificate, tax ID#, and business insurance. Then you are ready to start contacting vendors for food and dealers for your transportation.
