Back in the days of Whitey Ford,Berra. Mantle and Marris I can't remember ball players making so many errors. Too many teams out there?

Yes, but there comes a time when the player has to make that leap. Unfortunately, I think too many have made that leap.

There's too many teams. Contracting a few would help, but who. It's a business too so there would be jobs lost - everyone from players up to management as well as trainers, ground crew, concession stand workers, stadium personell, etc There would even be a "hit" to the surrounding businesses and the city the team plays in.

Maybe the number of people a team can bring up should be limited to a certain number per year. It would take a few years, but the average age would rise. There would be better teams where the rookies could "melt" in and gain the experience they need after making the leap.

Errors happen to everybody not just the "triple A" guys...

During the years of Ford, Berra, Mantle winning World Series there were only 16 teams in the Major Leagues. That means there were only 400 Major Leaguers at any one time.

Now there are 30 teams, meaning there are 750 Major League players at any one time.

Looking at that it would appear that 350 players do not belong in the Majors. That would be wrong.

During the days of the old Yankees there were less than 200 million people in the USA. Now we have over 300 million residents in the USA. Add in the populations the of Latin American nations and the Asian nations and these 750 players have actually beaten better odds to get to the Major Leagues than players of 40 years ago.

The athletes are bigger and faster than even 20 years ago and I am not talking about steroid usage; steroids do not add height.
The biggest difference is that players do not play baseball as much growing up as compared to previous eras. Players that have the physical skills are coming to the Major Leagues now before they have enough game experience in the minor leagues.

The rules are different now, a player cannot be held in the minor leagues as long without coming to the Majors now.
