I think you real question is the difference between GSM and CDMA. GSM (Global Service for Mobile communications) has a huge advantage over CDMA. GSM has steady output power from the cell sites while CDMA powers down the site as more people make calls on a site. So basically, if you are on the edge of coverage during say rush hour, you stand a better chance of dropping a call. If you want higher data speeds, most CDMA carriers have launched EVDO which is supposed to give fairly high speeds, the major GSM companies have at least EDGE which is about 216k or UMTS which is supposed to deliver around 600k and Cingular has supposedly launched HSDPA in a few markets which is supposed to deliver speeds around 3m. As for call clarity, dropped calls, network reliability, etc. it's all pretty much sixes.

CDMA and GPRS are different technologies. GPRS is used for internet, under GSM service. CDMA is the technology Verizon and Sprint use.
