I think my daughter who is seven and a half weeks is sick, she does not have a fever but is coughing a lot and when she coughs it sounds like their is mucus coming up, any tips on how to make her healthy or remedies which might bring her cold down, also how seirous is it when a baby at her age catches something?

If you're breastfeeding, drinking some apple cider vinegar will help with her congestion. I was a nanny, and when the baby was sick (he was just about the same age) that's what the mother did. There really isn't anything you can give her in the way of medicine, and if there's no fever I wouldn't be too worried at this point. Keep her from being flat on her back as much as possible, have her sleep in her carseat, or swing, or bouncy seat (they dont' have to be on). That will help with her congstion, and help her sleep more soundly (thus you can also sleep more soundly) and the more rest she gets the better to help her get better soon. If the coughing gets worse, she does get a fever, or she gets more symptoms call the doctor. If her lips get blue at any point call 911. I hope she gets better soon! :)

Well, it could be a couple of things. - reflux... basically that's baby acid indigestion. Sometimes can be relieved by elevating the head end of the cot/moses basket. Usual signs are vomiting and crying after a feed and baby being more comfortable the more upright she is. It often passes when baby is on solids, as they are easier to keep down. Dr can prescribe baby Gaviscon to help in the interim. - allergy... she may have an allergy to the formula you are using. Try changing the formula or re-instating breastfeeding (it's not too late to do that if you have a good breastfeeding counsellor, I speak from experience) If those don't work ask the Dr about prescription formula. Remember that a little bit of milky sick does go a very long way! My first son projectile vomited once and we thought it was the whole bottle. The next day we knocked over the dregs of some milk (about 1oz) and it was almost exactly the same amount! Either way I think you ought to mention it to your GP or Health Visitor. If she is throwing up her whole feed then she could get dehydrated, so definitely worth another mention.

Well depending on the weather where you live, maybe taking her for a walk to breathe in some good air. My baby who is now 8 months old just got over a really bad cough. I found what helped her best was, keeping a vaporizer next to her crib all day long! I also used baby Vick's! It works great! You can also buy the liquid that you can put in the vaporizer itself! besides that just comfort her as much as possible! Good luck, hope she feels better soon!

They really can only start to drink medicine from 3 months and you do not want to take any chances with her underdeveloped imune system as yet, so take her to the dr before it becomes serious. That mucus can easily cause an infection and before you know it your little baby has brongitis. Good luck!

alot of times, new babys still have stuff in thier lungs from birth. My daughter went threw the same thing that you described at the same exact age.As long as they arent coughing up nasty stuff or have a fever, then your ok.It will eventually clear up on its own.Ask a dr what you can do to help it clear up.Personally,i put a pillow UNDER the head of her mattress to elevate it a little so that it was easier for her to breath...dont ask me why that works bc i forgot, but it does. Also,i used a humidifier at night.

When any baby get sick I believe its serious.
Is she running a fever?
Are you nursing?
I ask these questions because fever....even mild could mean infection.
Nursing I ask because my son was allergic to milk and thus was allergic to what I was he eating he did the same thing with the noises.
I would call the doctor my theory ....Better safe then sorry.
Best wishes for you and your new baby.:O)

Take no chances. Either take her to the nearest emergency or to a walk in clinic to have her checked. This could easily become pnemonia at her age. Do not delay.

You shouldn't get to worked up. When my daughter had the same thing, I took her to the doctors and they gave her medican for it, and she was about 2 weeks old at the time.
