Let's start a heated debate......!

Well, for me, it depends on the type of song you are talking about -

For love songs - Maybe I'm Amazed and My Love are two of the greatest in my opinion. He wrote them for Linda, the true love of his life, and to this day, when he performs them live, you can tell he's getting choked up.

Paul is normally considered to be the romantic of The Beatles, so many people credit him for the ballads, and John for the rocker, edgier, more 'real' songs. In fact, both were able to write songs of either definition.

For more 'rock' type songs - Helter Skelter is awesome, the guitar riffs, drumming and rawness of the lyrics really push the song over the edge.

Let It Be is another all time favorite - like 'Yesterday' it wasn't a true Lennon/McCartney collaboration, Paul wrote most of the lyrics and music. (FYI - On the album version of Yesterday, Paul McCartney is the only Beatle to play on the track, same as Eleanor Rigby.)

Hope this Helps

Let It Be

Did you know the song itself was a debate:

Although the song's lyrics are interpreted by some as being a hymn to the Virgin Mary, the song was written as a tribute by McCartney after he had a dream about his mother, Mary, who died when he was fourteen.
[1] (John Lennon was allegedly critical of the song upon McCartney's introduction, assuming that 'Mother Mary' was merely an allusion to Christianity.) However, whether consciously or not, the words 'let it be' quote Mary’s words to Gabriel in the Gospel of Luke 1:38.

McCartney's very under-rated because Lennon died, although most of my favourite Beatles songs are Lennon songs.

"Helter Skelter" "Yesterday" "Hello Goodbye" are all up there but I'd say his best is "Eleanor Rigby." Ray Charles does a mean version of this too.

His horrible wife must be the most hated woman in Britain. God I loathe her...

There really is no debate. I love all of his songs. The idea of stating his best song is only a matter of opinion. But for my money I would probably say Admiral Halsey/ Uncle Albert. I love the change of tempos in that song.

Macca has a reputation as a 'soft' artist. But he once released a single called 'Give Ireland back to the Irish', a passionate, rousing protest song. Shame on the BBC for not playing it !
