You shouldn't. Your parents should send a note to school with you or call the school to let them know. Unless you are in college then you should notify them that you will be attending a funeral that day and will not be there. I'm sorry for your loss.

First off, I am terribly sorry for your loss. I lost a cousin to suicide a few years ago. If you are able to sign yourself out, just tell them (if you are in highschool). If you are in college or university, you don't need to worry unless you have a test. If you do, call your profs immediatly and tell them. You will also need to provide documentation that you were at a Funeral. Eg. the booklette you get at funerals with the departed's picture and date of birth/death

Just tell the people at the school the truth, but, bring proof, so, they know that you are not making it up, since once in a while some kid throughout the ages had used the excuse of someone in their family had died so they can have a play day. But, if you can make the people at your school understand, they will support you and may even start telling stories about when someone in their own family had died.

Just tell the school you were at a funeral. Or if you're going to ask in advance, that you need to attend one.

Tell them there's been a death in the family and you have to attend the funeral.

Usually a note signed by your parent/guardian will do the trick -- just drop it off at the office. You should let your teachers know, though, and arrange to pick up any missed assignments.

Oh, and my condolences on your loss.

The same way adults miss work. There has been a death in the family.

It's not up to you to tell your school, but your parents need to call or write to the school.
