When I really wanted a car, I made a list of all the reasons it would be a good idea - I get good grades, I dont party or do drugs like other kids etc, how I would help pay for it - helping out etc, why i wanted it etc. It really helps to convince your parents that you are not just whining and youve thought it through and they will sit down and at least give you a discussion - dont get angry and whiny but rationally explain. Address their concerns too - if its money, think of ways to compromise, if its that u just want it for fun to talk to friends tell them of the safety and security reasons that they can reach you anytime anywhere, tell them you dont need a expensive plan, or can even get prepaid so you wont use it just to text message friends all day. Compromise and seriously discuss it - it almost always works.

1) How old are you?

2) If you want a cell phone, show that you are responsible enough. If your parents don't have a cell plan, look into a pay-as-you-go cell phone. Look up different companies and present your parents with different solutions.

3) You do not REALLY need a cellphone. That isn't going to get you anywhere. DISCUSS it with them, like an adult. Don't expect the answer to be one that you like.

Define "need".
I am really having a problem understanding any reason for you to need one.
Don't mistake the peer pressure you are experiencing as a "need".
Some of the previous answers say you should use lies to justify getting it.
If you lie about this, then where does the lying end?
If you can't get it by making a real honest case, then you probably don't need it.

it is important, these days for a kid, (14 or above) to have a cell, I got one for my daughter, but i told her if I ever call and she don't answer, i will take it away. It has come useful many times for emergencies. I am glad i did now. At first I didnt want to. Like I said, Now im glad I did. She pays for everything over the contract price. If she can't I take it too. She proved to be very responsible with it.

Well, why do you need the cell phone? If they are good reasons, surely your parents will understand.

You really don't, you know. You just want to be cool, cos all your mates have one. And if you're talking about the safety aspect, there's the phone box down the road!!!

stay out all night and walk and go home a 7 in the morning, roll around in som dirt mess up your hair and bite your lip till you bleed, they will be more worried about what has happened instead of why you were out all night, when they ask say you were walking home and a group of people jumped you and threw you in a ditch, then say it wouldnt have happened if i had a cellphone!!

Tale total responsibility for the cell phone yourself. Pay for he phone and the prepaid time all by yourself. If they don't like that idea then listen to their reasons and try to understand.

as soon as you can buy it go get it, by then you will no doubt be free of your parents shackles and rules and they won't be the ones you expect to pay all the time.

You have no more need of a cell phone than you need to be able to fly

you go out for ages so they worry about you. dont get in contact with them just turn up late when they are worried about you. dont take any money with you so you cant use a pay phone.

keep doing this. time and time again. if they worry about you they will end up getting you one just so they can ring and make sure your ok.

*this might get you grounded a few times before you get the phone
