What early toys, games, etc. can I by to increase his IQ. He is only two months now but very alert. We play "pic-a-boo" and other home games but what is out there in stores that I can get for no older than 6 months, that can stimulate his thinking.

Read to him. They love it! I have three children & they all have above average intelligence. Even if it's the same books over & over (which they seem to love!), it really seems to make a big difference. Blocks with bright colors or abstract black & white designs seem to stimulate their brains. Even plastic cups (for stacking) & measuring spoons, it doesn't have to be the big expensive toys. Also, please don't be too caught up in the hype & try to relax & enjoy your son. Simply show him lots of love & affection and he will thrive.

I'm not a professional psycholgist but I have 4 children (19 to 1 yr old) - all very intelligent, one with a 156 IQ (the others haven't been tested). I believe the biggest reason for high intelligence in my kids is spending almost all their time with me constantly talking, doing, etc. I'm not big into toys and it seems the more things we do together - can be anything - doesn't require 'store bought' toys... and the more we talk - the smarter they seem to get.

The best way to increase your babies future IQ is to spend time with them and ensure they get optimum nutrition.

Study after study has shown that all the toys, gadgets, gizmos, videos etc, etc do not have as much effect as time spent with a caring adults.

Talk to your baby, take your baby out places to see new and different things and let your baby be a baby. Also babies enjoy non-toys more than toys, so safe things like tablespoons, measuring cups and tupperware are always fun.

Talk to him! Walk him around the house every day, describing the items you see and touch.

Tell him what you are doing, all the time. NOT baby talk, use the adult words.

Read to him, we learn to speak by hearing the natural rhythms of language, read read read.

My darling daughter is 17 months old and although she cannot say more than 10 or 15 words, her working vocabulary is well over 300. It doesn't matter what we tell her to go to, she always know what we are talking about and follows directions well.

Good luck and have fun!

I am the oldest of 8 kids, and I learned that the best way to increase IQ is to spend a lot of time with your child, read them newspapers, educational books and magazines, and most of all, don't spoil them or treat them like a baby. Don't talk to the kid as if he is a baby; talk as if you are talking to another grown up, and the kid will learn to think like a grown up. Read all the time, use flash cards at the earliest age possible, and remember: Never spoil the kid!

BREASTFEED!!!! It has been proven that breastfed infants have higher IQs.

"A study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition shows that breastfed infants tested 5.2 IQ points higher than formula fed infants, for a comprehensive study involving 11 different studies and over 7000 children."

The more interaction you have with him, the smarter he will be because he will be learning just from watching you. Talk to him, sing to him, read him books, blow bubbles, let him look in the mirror etc. But also be careful not to over stimulate him... it can make him cranky, fussy, and not open to learning.
