i think 'lisp' is something called an onomatopoeia, or word that is also the sound it makes, like 'splat'

as to phonetic, and dyslexic, those are derived from other languages

It was a way of separating lispers from the non-lispers.

I guess that you would have to blame Dr Johnson for this nasty quirk as he invented English spelling!
