First of all, don't try and talk me out of a mac. I'm already convinced. So here's the scenario: I'm 14, into sports, friends, and much more. I went to the apple store a while ago and was amazed at the new 24-inch iMac, and wanted one badly. Since then I've been saving up, and I'm well on my way. I have used windows all my life, and haven't been able to use the computer (or wanted to) in a while. I still think the mac is amazing. I'm having trouble deciding whether to spend $2000 on an iMac when I already have a really nice computer (desktop). Should I get a macbook, macbook pro, imac, or what?

I don't know why I need a new computer!...! I'm using the "family computer" all the time and wanted my own-- I thought that the iMac was sweet with photos and stuff. But I'm starting to think that $2000 is a lot of money for something that I think is "cool".

Well what do you plan on doing with the new computer and why do you want a new one if your old one is still working, are there things it can't do that you want the new one to do. Do you plan on doing movie editing, gaming, just surfing the internet, do you want a laptop. Try and give us a little more insight into what you are looking for and then I can probably give you a good suggestion.

EDIT: Yes I would say that $2000 is quite a lot to spend on someting that you don't know whether you need or not just because it looks cool. What do you do with the family computer, do you just surf the net or do you play computer games, what?

EDIT: To the guy who answered below me, go compare a Mac Mini with a Dell E521 and see which one gives you more power for your money and guess what, fact: The Dell is better. Also, fact: I have used both, and in my humble opinion used both properly, and frankly I still hate Macs. Macs are better for some things (video editing), but just on an overall basis, you get more for your money with a PC, and you have more options on a PC, and they are easier to upgrade.

A fact: People who use Windows and say Macs suck have never used a Mac (properly).
People who use Mac and say PCs suck almost always used PCs (thoroughly) before.
Almost everyone who owns a Mac likes it and is often proud of it.
On the other hand, a lot of people who own Windows don't like Windows or at least parts of it.
This kinda speaks for itself.
The whole looks issue is only the tip of the iceberg. Mac is really better, not only cuz it looks a lot better. The simplicity of use is unbeatable, compared to the possibilities.
Why not get a mac mini? They're only like 600$ and are compatible with almost any newer mouse, keyboard and screen. I have a mac mini too, because i wasn't sure if i'd like it. Now i don't think i'll ever buy a PC again

PC person, had to be badgered into getting a mac. Went to the store, got the manager, told him how much money I had to spend and told him to set me up.

I ended up with the IMAC, dual chip, large screen and took the classes. Make sure to go to the classes and pay for the pro-care. I have no regrets.

The manager, Michael, did good.
