Beautiful! I've lived here my whole life. It's not too big and crowded; it's just the perfect size. There are plenty of places to shop, sightseeing, always something going on. Also, I'm only fourteen and for the past three years I've been commutinng to and from downtown from the south side by myself, and have never been threatened, jumped, robbed, etc... And whenever I get lost I can just ask anybody that's not in a rush where a street is, where a train station is, etc. I feel completely safe. The only advice I would give you is to:
Stay on the big streets until you get familiar with the city, and know where not to go (there are no unsafe places on the busy streets).
See the city! Go to concerts, museums, the planetarium... everything's so gorgeous!!
Watch the weather on the news. It get's crazy sometimes, so it's good to know what's coming.

It is beautiful, there are a lot of things to do, it is a big city, but not as crowded as NY
July is perfect since it is in the middle of the summer, you can go to the beach and take the sun, people are really nice and it is not an expensive city

The windy city is a great city! Its a very clean city. Make sure that you have a nice and warm winter coat, because it gets really cold for winter! ALways something fun to do!

Totally awesome! There's so much to see, and so much going on all the time. And the food, omg! It's fantastic. It's freaking freezing in the winter, though, and can get muggy. It's worth it though, since fall is stunning, and just to see Michigan Ave decorated for Christmas is a reason to move.
You'll love it! I do!

It's clean, friendly, excellent pizza and impressive skyline. People here seemed more laid back than in L.A. My only complaint is the humidity during the summer.
