I have always liked the sailfins, they seem to be the hardiest.

Don't forget, mollies are brackish water fish and require some salt in their water to stay healthy. Buy aquarium salt and follow directions on the package for mollies. I have always used one teaspoon per gallon of water in the tank. Don't be afraid of using a little too much, mollies can adapt to a marine environment if done very slowly.

Remember, salt does not evaporate. So the only time you would add salt would be when you physically remove water during your weekly partial (25%) water changes, not when adding water to make up for evaporation.

Partial water changes are THE most important part of keeping tropical fish. It keeps them healthy and removes the ammonia, nitrites and nitrates that build up over the week.

Buy what you like. The sail fins will get over 6 inches, with the rest growing to 3-5 inches. (Depending on how much of the sailfin gene for size they got.) 1st before buying molly I'd check your water hardness. Molly like a range of 10-25 kH. If you've got soft water I'd get soft water fish like tetras, barbs, killi, rainbow fish, angels and the like.

Note- 17 ppm alkalinity ~= 1 kH

I've always thought the natural sailfin mollies we the best looking ones and the hardest to find in fish stores for some reason.

Whichever ones you prefer. I've had all of them at some point or other, I've always like the balloon mollies personally. Sailfain's would be my next pick.

personal preference. Me personally I think that they are all beautiful and interesting to watch. also, quite simple to breed you can get a fair price for sailfin babies
