they are referring to the size of the universe as not being fixed. some astronomers believe the universe is increasing in size and some believe the size is infinite. if there is a limit to the size of the universe it makes you wonder what lies beyond the limit. are there other universes? most objects are moving away from each other according Doppler shift observations from astronomers. this Doppler shift was used by Hubble to measure the distances in space. at one time, not long ago our galaxy was thought to contain everything. Hubble showed that stars exist beyond our galaxy which then made our understanding of the size of the universe much bigger. Hubble studied Cepheid variable stars because of there known predictability in their nuclear reactions. it was once thought the Andromeda galaxy was a cloud feature in our galaxy. it has been determined that the Andromeda Galaxy and our milky way galaxy are going to collide in the future. this could cause trouble with the real estate market.

The universe is infinitely large, but the observable universe isn't. We can only see 13.7 billion light-years in any direction, because our universe is only 13.7 billion years old. As time goes on, our observable universe will get bigger.
Regardless of that, we see distant galaxies moving away from us by measuring the doppler shift, so we know the space between the galaxies is getting larger - space is expanding, but not the objects within that space.
Here's another thing to think about - there are different sizes of infinity. You can have two things that are both infinitely large, and still be able to say that one is larger than the other. For example, think of how many integer numbers there are - an infinite number. Now think about how many decimal numbers there are. There are far more decimal numbers (1.533657, 1.4632344, 1.5642, 1.68884, etc) than there are integer numbers (1, 34376, 434, 15, etc). Even though there are an infinite number of both, one infinity is larger than the other. (When I first learned this I had a headache for a week!)

The problem - as the universe expands it actually creates space-time so what you are asking about is something that does not have space or time - the complete absence of any dimensions.
Sorry Sean L most scientists DO beleive the universe is definitely expanding. The doppler measurements of galaxies proove it, the thing that is poorly understood is that the RATE of expansion is increasing.
11 dimensions are a mathematical requirement for string theory, current theory has reduced this to 6 dimensions. However string theory is just that - a theory. We should not expect it to have any more practical application in the macro world than the square root of minus one. In fact string theory is now being seen as potentially a dead end - the world awaits a new theorem!

The universe is everything we see, not everything we know. The universe is expanding because everything is getting farther apart, and this was caused by the Big Bang about 15 billion years ago. We can see the universe is expanding, so the universe must be in a huge space that gives it room to expand. And why shoudn't there be more universes parallel to our own in that space...

Read up on the Big Bang.
Scientists believe that the universe is expanding at an exponential rate. The effects of the Big Bang.
It's akin to a balloon whereby we started of as a small speck and slowly expanded like being blown up

The universe is not everything. Also, did you know that the universe is made of 11 dimensions? Yes, the universe is expanding as per the big bang theory.

The universe is like the surface of a balloon. It gets bigger by stretching.

well it not its a theory believed by many scientist tht universe is expanding. they came up with this theory because the planets are moving further or something that makes them think tht the universe is expanding. well we don't even knw if universe is everything. there is a lot more for us to learn maybe like somewhere in the universe there is a place where u can teleport your self to other univerese or something. it there are other universe.

we define certain length as a meter and we measure with it. suppose we defined the distance from sun to earth is one meter then the solar system would have been small in terms of length say a few meters.
everything is relative in this world.
we can wonder the creation but live our life fully without harming anyone
