I take iron tablets for anaemia and they do cause stomach upset. I have also tried iron in liquid form and that had the same effect. My periods were always regular as clockwork but recently they have been late ......as much as 5 to 7 days. I even did a pregnancy test a couple of months ago as like yourself I was doubtful. It was negative and I put the irregularity down to the anaemia.

DOCS ARE COMPLETELY USELESS!!
I have been nauscious for.... 13 yrs. I've had every freakin thing done to me and just in the past 2 yrs they've said it was IBS (cause of the alternating bouts of constipation and diarrhea). Usually what they say is "Its just a virus. You'll feel better in a few days." Or "just stick to clear fluids for a few days." UGH. The IBS advice was low fat high fiber diet. (doctor actually said vegetarian was really good. haha)
My actual advice -- try taking a zantac every 12 hrs see if it helps at all.

I'm sorry about your stomach, that sounds awful:worried:
Ginger tea might help, also fennel tea. I think Yogi tea and Traditional Medicinals makes specific digestive formulas.
Hope you feel better soon,

don´t take iron, because it WILL cause stomach problems

I was diagnosed with IBS a few years ago, and stress directly affects how my stomach is doing. Since I have been off of dairy, my symptoms are MUCH better, but I still have problems when I am under lots of stress, or am upset for some reason. It does tend to feel like gas pain (bloating) with me, also.

Yes, IBS can start out of a sudden, but it´s a kind of diagnosis which need exclusion of other diseases first, so if your condistion persists, see a gastroenterologist.

iron can give you stomach ache and can turn your stools black. It is also recommended that you take vitamin C when taking iron as this helps the absorption of the iron, not sure if it will reduce any stomach pains. As for your period being late or absent, buy a pregnancy test just to be sure.

That is one of the biggest most common side effects of taking iron. The can really upset your stomach. Make sure you are taking the slow release iron because they cause less of a stomach ache. They can also mess up your cycle especially if you are taking too high of a dose. Talk with your doctor about the symptoms you are having. He may want to cut back on your dose a little. It can be dangerous to take too much of it.

No honey, the iron supplements are not making you late. Being pregnant sure will tho. ( sorry, not trying to be flippant).
Iron pills, especially if they are not the slowly-released kind, can cause you to have an upset stomach or even to vomit. Try one of the supplements called "Slow Fe" or something similar.
More importantly you should probably make sure that you are not pregnant if your period is late. Depending on how late you are you should consider a pregnancy test.
Take care hon and I hope that you will let me know what happens. I will be thinking about you.
Love and Blessings

I'd take a pregnancy test, if ur late u should find out straight away. Iron tablets shouldn't cause this discomfort but check side effects on packet - they do however make your mouth, drinks & food taste metally (and yes your poop is black) Hope it's the result u want.

Any long term ingestion of medication can cause stomach pains. Any stomach pains need checking out with your GP. Could be something serious or nothing at all. In any event, do not take chances with your health. If you are in serious pain take yourself to your local A & E, tell them what you have been taking and your symptoms. Let them get on with the diagnosis and for goodness sake don't take any medication not prescribed by your doctor. I hope you are OK.

Yes it makes my stomach hurt. I'm anaemic so I take iron tablets and sometimes I get a pain under my left breast just like a cramp but it only lasts like an hour!
