Are there people who are just excellent at something, with no work whatsoever?

It depends on how excellence is defined. Certinaly some people possess inate ability allowing them to great skill in certain tasks with little work.

However, to be considered excellent is in the opinion of others. If there were only one person, they would never consider excellence as there would be no comparison or expert to consult.

To be excellent at something must come from either an inate skill or aquired skill, and validation from a community of experts.

Excellence is and will always be a challenge to achieve. I understand that some have natural capabilities that will allow them to do certain things more easily than others, but it is still a challenge for them as well. If it was otherwise, the word excellence would lose its worth. If people could just walk onto a football field and play better than anyone else without having worked to achieve that status of ability, what would be the point?

As children, yes. But to be an adult who is excellent at something, you have to do some work! Life is competitive, to be excellent means you have to be better than most other people. Takes work and perseverence, as well as talent

It depends what your definition of excellence is.

People can be good at something with no work whatsoever, but "practice makes perfect."

nope
i believe in talents and everyone has their own special talents
ex.
Being talented in dancing will allow u to learn faster but it will still require time and hard work
If you arent talented in dancing u can still be just as "excellent", but it will take u a bit longer and a little extra work than someone with the talent

excellence is hard to achieve but then again so everything else in this world...you just need to put your mind to it and forget about everything else.....even the experts and pros were once beginners

cliched as it may sound- practise makes perfect is a one-liner that is timeless. everytime you practise something, it brings you a step to perfection. though nothing is technically perfect, but being almost there is better than remaining stagnant.

"Take infinite pains to create something that looks effortless" was the theme of the great painter-sculptor's story.
