No, but that's because I've been an astronomer (professional or amateur) for the last 15 years. When I look up, I know what I'm seeing (star, planet, meterorite, fireball, plane, satellite, Iridium flash, etc) whereas most people rarely look up at all, and may be confused when they do.

My husband once told me he saw what he thought was a UFO; he described it as a light that got MUCH brighter and then died out to a pinpoint. I told him it sounded like a meteorite that hit the atmosphere and burned up at a direct angle to his vision (so that it appeared as a point without a tail). I've seen objects move across the sky, but since I live in a flight path, I always assume they are aircraft. Once I saw one that made no noise and hung about awhile, but at the time I was checking online for times to view satellites passing overhead and I put it down to perhaps being one of these catching the setting sun's rays. I'm not one to jump to the conclusion that a UFO is a spacecraft, just something I haven't identified yet.

I remember once looking out my window while trying to fall asleep. There was a small light that looked a little like a star, but slightly bigger. First it went east, then suddenly cut north, then suddenly cut east again. It passed my window in a matter of seconds. It was VERY fast, mush faster than any airplane I have ever seen.

Was this an encounter? Maybe.
