Well, a cell can not be termed a gamete or reproductive cell BEFORe meiosis, this term is only applicable after meiosis, when it is now a haploid cell or 23 chromosomes in humans. So before meiosis it is a diploid cell (2n) or 46 chromosomes.

Each gamete has 23. They combine to make a total of 46.

Unless there's some type of genetic anomally.

And yes, this is the human gamete. Other animals have different numbers of chromosomes.
