years ago was given a candy dish by my mother in law- regifted it to my sister in law (husbands brothers wife) who then not knowing where i got it from re-gifted it to my mother in law at the following family holiday dinner. unfortunatly my mother in law had made it in ceramics and knew it was hers to begin with. so now she gives gift certificates instead of candy dishes that no one uses.

Ahh, the regift. actually, no, but I've given gifts given to me to someone else. My family right now has a rotating Homer Simpson Chia Head that just keeps going from member to member.

No, I have a knack of remembering when I receive gifts. I do regift, but never to the original gift giver.

Worse than that is being given a prezzie to pass on to someone else!!! As far as your question goes, just tell that person you forgot they gave it to you, & promise to buy them something to make up.
