Every year he does this earlier and earlier. Maybe I should put my outside lights and tree up too, and forget about Halloween and Thanksgiving. By nightime our neighborhood will look like a Christmas wonderland.

I don't see a problem with putting up my Christmas lights now... I don't have to worry about a ladder slipping on ice, trying to get it done and freezing at the same time... Since the weather is nice now, it is a better idea to take advantage of getting some of those things done... But I'm not going to start lighting them up until, maybe early December... It would be out of place to light them now. Putting up lawn decorations and what more, well, I can agree it is a bit much and, maybe even inviting for young punks to come along and vandalize the place of all that work... To put up Christmas lights on the house, or the tree is fine, but to go all out with the lawn ornaments is too much too soon and is asking for trouble.

Cheers!

I think people should put up/take down their decorations whenever they want. The usual I would say is after thanksgiving-a week after christmas. Anytime after halloween and before february i think is pretty normal, though. if they are up longer, it doesn't matter. that's just the persons opinion, and they are entitled to it. There's no law about what people can have on their gutters.

Maybe he just likes Christmas. The early birds don't bother me as much as the ones who still have them up in March. Just think about the electric bills he will be paying and laugh.

Where I am from, decorations for Christmas tend to go up the day after thanksgiving.

He's either A. Really excited about Christmas or B. Taking advantage of the good weather. Your neighbor might be worried about getting on the roof when it might start snowing or the roof might be covered with ice.
