I know what you mean, I love to travel but it takes time to get together enough money, but if you really have a passion, you usually find a way to make it happen even if it takes awhile. I take pleasure in the planning of my next holiday and knowing that while I wait- I can dream.

There are plenty of ways to afford hobbies. If you truly enjoy traveling then you can. How often you go compared to someone else though is another question. You simply must budget properly in order to take up different hobbies and do everything to can to save money while doing your hobbies. Also try to find some other not as expensive hobbies. For example, if you have a digital camera you can take up photography and never print a picture!

The problem is your approach. The way you said "if you want to produce quality paintings you need quite some money." That is entirely innacurate. A painting can be a masterpiece with $10 in materials. The materials is not what makes it valuable. It should be the painting that makes you happy, not what you are using to do the painting. I personally enjoy hiking. Of course I love hiking in the mountains, but it costs me a lot of money to get to the mountains so I go to a local park where it is secluded. Happiness is not taking actions, happiness is a state of mind. You have to choose to be happy. I recommend you do some research, there is a lot on the web on this. Good luck on your journey!

Some of the people answering this are SO right! When I got divorced, I was dirt poor. Working a job that paid very little and having a lot of bills. But I figured out how to get the things I wanted. I developed a taste for beer so I was able to afford joining my friends for happy hour. I got a little part-time job at the best gym in the area because it included a membership.
The thing is, you have to be CREATIVE. Oh, and btw, there are a lot of great travel deals online.

If you can't afford things that make you happy - how do you know that they make you happy?
Don't we all have to just get on and do the best with what we have? i.e. a person who has never been able to see usually doesnt tend to sit there saying 'oh I will never be happy because I can't afford the million pound operation that will make me see'.
Thats probably a silly example, but I think that perhaps the answer lies in your question itself....if you can accept a 'lower limit' of what you do (i.e. you produce some excellent paintings but they aren't the best quality), then I believe that as your talent or enjoyment grows, you could well be shown 'paths' to accessing the materials that can make you do the best piece of work.
Does this make sense? Its kind of like something wants you to prove your mettle and your commitment rather than just handing it to you on a plate, for you to get bored and not value it so much in the fist place.
Hope that doesnt sound like a lecture - its probably meant more to me than to you, this answer!!

I know you've probably heard this a million times and probably said to yourself that Yeah, right. But for real money can't buy happiness. At least not on a permanent basis. You may be happy for a short time, like until you are board with what every its that you spent money on. But true happiness comes from within. Its not something bought or even something that someone else ie, boyfriend/girlfriend, spouse, children, etc. can bring.

You find the pleasure on the journey to achieving your goals. So, as you work to save money for travel, you dream of that destination, take out books from the library on your locale of choice, talk about the planned trip with friends, get advice about where to stay, what to see, and where to eat, and so forth. And when you finally have enough money to take that trip, all those people who you talked to and shared your dream will send you off with happy and loving thoughts. Sounds wonderful to me. Enjoy!

When you dream too high, most likely you will be hurt more deeply.
So, why not start from the beginning, deal with every step of the way, descipline/hypnotize/talk well and make compromises to yourself to find pleasure in every achievements, solutions you`ve done to yourself.
Don`t keep looking up or to others when you haven`t seen, examine or explore everything in your surroundings, those within your visual fields, those what is offered to you by nature within your reach.
You`ll never know what really makes you happy until you have seen them all.
If you keep on looking up or very far beyond, most likely you`ll stumble, hurt yourself, or stops your life from dreaming more, when you`re dead.

Try looking at others who have less than you. Realize happiness is a state of mind rather than state of being. Yes having money is great but it won't last most things you buy are not meant to last forever that includes people.
