I am not sure, but I think they fly over into the next county and perch till the storm is over. I think animals have a much keener sense of the weather than we do, and I think they run and hide for a while.

I remember one time a few years back we got every type of precipitaion in one day. It was april 1st (ironically april fools day). The day started out really cold and it was only 28 degrees in the morning with light snow (very rare in my area for april). Then the snow changed over to sleet and then rain. By 3:00 lighting lit up the sky and the temperature rose to 60 degrees. By then the snow was already long melted. Then after that it poured and it started hailing like crazy. It did little damage but did whiten up the lawn a bit. I knew it wasnt snow or sleet becasue of the way it looked and also the temperature it was. The hail stones were about 1/2 an inch in diameter and one of the largest Ive seen.
