i have a picture on my desktop but all the icons eg my documents, my computer, antivirus etc.. have a blue backing behind them, on my friends computer the icons are there but no backing, i want the backing to go so it dosent disrupt the picture background does any1 know how i do it?

right-click on my computer, then go to the advanced tab, then click on the performance settings, then under custom check off use drop shadows, and that should fix your problem.

Right click in an open area of your Desktop, not on an icon.
Click on Desktop tab that comes up in the Display Properties window. Change color in the drop down menu for color.

This is assuming you are using Windows XP.

You could also click on the Appearance tab insted of the Desktop tab and change the background color there.

in win xp, your problem is automatically solved by default ... but it is not so just right click on desktop go to properties and try changing appreance settings

If yours is win 98 or any thing else then right click desktop change appreance settings (in that you will see background color) change the background color which suits to your already selected background ... this option is possible good luck :-)
