I love the smell of it. Creates a nice warmy glow. I think its because it is associated with sitting in front of a nice log fire on an awfully cold day; all snug and warm.
It reminds us of being comfortabel, warm and happy. If you picture a log fire you always seem to be happy.

I absolutely love the smell! Was at Greenham Common Womens Peace Camp many years ago and would go home after many weeks living outside and would bury my head in a shirt just to get the smell of my 'other home' back! I always kept a wee scarf unwashed....how sad is that?
Anyway now I've got my own garden I do on occasion have a wee fire late on a summers night and make a big fat bit of toast and tea and think back to my days at camp.
Thanks for the great reminder, just what I needed on a cold night.
Cheers

I think our olfactory sense brings back more vivid memories than any other sense. I too love the smell of burning leaves and a nice fire. We live in So. Cal. and use a Coleman portable firepit to have outdoor fires at night on the few times it gets cool enough. The smell of wodsmoke on a cool fall evening brings back wonderful memories. Just like the smell of a wonderful rose or pumpkin pie baking or chocolate chip cookies fresh in the oven. Wonderful !!

I agree with others who say there are SO MANY different smells there - in the bush it smells like animals and dust and dirt, on the beach and along the coasts it smells like sea water, etc. The two smells that remind me most of Africa though - regardless of how common they really are - are: a. If you warm up milk or water over a wood-burning fire or campfire, the liquid takes on a smokey taste and smell that's VERY strong. That smells like the cattle-raising people and areas of Africa to me. b. Buring garbage, and specifically (I think) burning plastic bags. There is, in general, a shortage of really good trash collection in most African cities and towns and so people tend to burn the garbage. The smell is sort of toxic and nasty, but whenever I smell that in other countries, it makes me think, "It smells like Africa!!" It's one of the smells you get in the background when living in Africa a lot. I now really like the smell, because I really, really like Africa.

I love the smell of a woodburning stove! It's very comforting, as it brings me back to when I was child living in a small community. They're wonderful memories!

There were so many woodworking plans with this collection and you will not believe this but there are over thousands plans in the one package deal. Go here https://tr.im/b6jZD
This is really something to find that many all together. For someone like me who is just really starting to get involved with woodworking this was like letting me loose in a candy store and telling me I could have anything I wanted. That was my dream when I was a kid.

I love it too, but the reason of it is when the wood burns, it sucks the polluted air and purified it, believe it or not. Think about carbon or charcol, they are used to filter the dirt from the water.

Depends on the type of wood being burnt, I also love the smell of freshly cut grass.

I'm with you on that one. It reminds me of bonfire night, and it also takes me back to when I lived in Germany for a while. They would often have fairs on in the winter and would burn pieces of wood with your name on. I also love the sound of crunching leaves beneath my feet.

I love it. My next door neighbors have an old fashion cook stove.
I think I'm the only neighbor that hasn't complained
