Growing up, I would often give my parents a hard time about the music they liked. Now I find myself in the same situation, stuck in the 80's with my music tastes? How did this happen?

I think we listen to music for enjoyment, relaxation, entertainment, and often happiness. we settle into a certain type of music that represents the chapters of our lifes that we found the most satisfaction. I am personally a classic rock junkie. But I try very hard to respect the music that my kids enjoy as well, and I like most of it! The kids and their friends decided that I am a *cool mom*. I decided years ago not to repeat my parents narrow mindedness when it comes to music. Oh and guess what...my kids also love to listen to classic rock...so it can go both ways!

Most people stick with the music they love and only get interested in new stuff if it sounds like the stuff they like. However, if you want to expand your taste then listen to demos or free downloads of some new music and you might find that their is some new talent that is as great as the tunes you still love. My mom was a child of the 60's and listens to both the music of her teen era as well as current artist like Pink and Rob Thomas that is why I like music made before I was born and the new sounds coming out.

Music seems to be getting more outrageous and shock-value-oriented as time goes by. Also, for most of us, tastes and attitudes toward the world around us change as we age.
