Freddie Mercury.

He is the only human being who it was ever verified could sing in 8 different octaves.

Have all you people forgotten about Art Garfunkel
without a doubt, far and away the best male vocalist.
check out bridge over troubled water, the boxer, america, etc..
No one will ever match him.

Second would be Graham Nash of the Hollies and Crosby, Still, Nash (and Young). Listen to songs like Don't say goodbuy, our house, wasted on the way.

If you like rock, then it's gotta be Roger Daltrey of the who.

Old Blue Eyes is his prime...untouchable...Elvis, even when he was all messed up in Vegas hits every note perfectly...Johhny Cash's voice will rip a hole in your sole, the group harmonies of a band like Crosby, Stills and Nash or even the early Beach Boy's records are amazing...but...Jeff Buckley is from another planet. check out "Live at Sine'" if you want to hear a truly amazing/inspired vocal performance.

I don't know if he's the best, but Meatloaf sounded pretty awesome on the "Bat Out Of Hell" album.
