yehh if the Yankees beat the Tigers in Round 1 they would have won it all..The Cardinals lucked out big time..but since the yankees went out in round 1, the mets deserve it the most.

While its true that St. Louis had an unimpressive record, 83W - 79L, and four teams in the AL had 86 or more wins and didnt even make the playoffs, the Cards just got most of the breaks and played good baseball. Last year when the White Sox nearly choked away a 15 game lead, people were talking about them being set up for an exit in the ALCS to the winner of Yanks/Angels series. Funny, the White Sox got hot at the right time and you heard nothing else about their September fall-off.
St. Louis isnt the worst team to win it all. You can make a case for the 1987 Twins who won only 85 games or the 1945 Tigers who won 88 games.
Records dont mean anything. The National League was sorry this year. But the Cards produced when it counted and remember, Detroit had a chance to clinch the AL Central and it was literally handed to them on a silver platter by the White Sox when they took 2 of 3 against the Twins at the end of the season. What did Detroit do? They got swept.....BY KANSAS CITY!!!!!!!!

Get over it...the Yankees weren't going to win anyways.
They would have beaten at some stage in the playoffs,
even if they won the ALDS, which they couldn't do, against
the Tigers. Al Leiter retired as a New York Yankee. They
are the worst team in terms of number of regular season
wins to win a World Series, but the point is they got the job
done. They had the best record in MLB in each of the two
previous seasons, and look where it got them when it
came to the playoffs when it mattered the most.

As far as the 83 wins goes, they are the team with the fewest wind to ever win the World Series, but they did make the plays and get the key hits when they needed to. For the record, it was El Duque that was out for the Mets, not Leiter.

Leiter doesnt even pitch on the Mets dumbass. Yankees just plain suck, with a 200 million dollar payroll, they're expected to be in every world series, but they didnt cause theys suck. Your probably a lonely cubs fan whos tired of being the Cards comfort boy.

no team that wins the world series is a bad team. this cardinal team was great. they dealt with injury after injury this year. do you think the yankees would have lasted in the playoffs after losing their closer? the cards did, he's no rivera. pujols, edwards, eckstein, and carpenter are among the best players in the game. tony larusa is the greatest manager by far in the last 20 years. the worst team ever.........................hahaha.

They can't be all bad if the won the series in 5 games. As a Yankee fan with good sportsmanship, my hat is off to them. Congrats!

I don't care what people say about talent, if you win the world series then you are the best team that season because nobody else stepped up to do it.

Personally, I think the Mets should've won and they had the chance to do so at the last game of the play-offs. Men on 1st and 2nd, 1 out. The opportunity was there but they never succeeded. The Cardinals got it done and it was well-deserved.
