Yes. Case in point...I knew what success meant to me...it was the ability to work at my own pace, in a nice pair of boxers, from the comfort of my own home. It took close to 10 years to achieve it. But...the drawback to my success? I'm pretty much tied to my desk/home for 12-15 hours a day...I never actually see or interact with people face-to-face. So while not a demise, per se, it still sucks in its own way...and makes me tell everyone...remember the adage...be careful what you wish you for...you might just get it.

You could, but you don't have to. Though many define themselves by their work, not enough maintain their equilibrium. A balance between a fully realized life and an occupation fosters happiness and satisfaction. You can work yourself to death or you can be the beneficiary of a successful life.

I've seen this happen a lot with famous people.
And in today's celebrity culture, the media are always around to give a helping hand!!!
Personally I am not great, I am a nice guy loser, not even quite clever enough to be a geek!
Who's laughing now eh?

victimization is just a comfortable concept for "self sabotage"
the answer for you question depends on the individuals definition of success and how it is played out. if success is equated with progress, then often, yes, this can lead to the successors eventual failure. if success is equated with joy and spreading joy, then the successor will never fail.

Only if you let it go to your head. A huge ego can deflate all good works.
