earrings should not be taken back by any retailer even if they think the earrings have not been worn. Normally when purchasing earrings your told that they cannot be returned, if you were not told complain. There was a directive for retailers brought in by health & safety some yrs ago now as a result of HIV infection possibly being passed on through earrings, therefore the return of earrings to shops was banned.

You'll find most jewellers have a no-return policy on earrings unless faulty. If they are taken back for any other reason at all, they would need to be cleaned and disinfected before they could be resold.
Again a lot of jewellers have this facility so you wont necessarily know if a pair of earrings you have bought, haven't been returned previously.

I do not know of any store that would take them back if they are open. This it for potential cross contamination of all sorts of infections. No reputable dealer would even think of putting them back on sale.
Items such as earrings normally state that they cannot be returned if opened.

Earrings that I've bought have been on a 'no return' basis, the exception being when they were faulty.

In the interests of hygiene I think all shops would refuse to take back earrings.

Most stores won't allow returns on anything that you have to be pierced to wear. If they do, they usually return it to the "buyer", the company that the store bought it off of.
