Even though I don't even have a girlfriend yet, I have the dream of being in a long, happy marriage with her. Do you think that's why I don't have a girlfriend? Am I setting my sights too high? Are my expectations too high? (Sometimes my dreams of finding her are also literal dreams I have at night.) If I'm expecting too much, then how are there couples out there who _do_ experience long, happy marriages? How did they find each other? Right now, I'm looking for the woman. I hope that kind of marriage results from our getting together. Any suggestions? Do you think it's romantic and reassuring to hear a man admit to having these thoughts and feelings?

I think it is very sexy. Women really crave a relationship with a man who will love and cherish them for all time. I find that men who really love their wives are much more attractive than those who jump in and out of relationships.

Long, satisfying marriages can and do happen...but they take work. My husband and I work on our marriage all the time....we take classes at church together, and work on how to better serve one another. Marriage is much better than I ever imagined it could be.

Be careful that you don't idealize marriage and make it impossible for anyone to live up to your dreams. Be realistic, but be hopeful.

Also, it probably isn't the right thing to be talking about on your first or second date. Because it is what you want, it is nice, but don't smother the girl you are dating. After a few dates, it is ok to talk about what you would like as an end result, but don't scare her away either. When it is the right girl, there will be no question and it will all work out easily.

I would suggest eharmony.com if you are serious about finding a lifemate. My husband and I met on the internet, and we have quite a few friends who have also met on the internet. eharmony matches you by personality, and that is a big help.

Good luck!

well of course a guy who wants a long happy marriage is good. Anyone who wants to settle down with their love ones is good. You don't have a gf maybe becuase all the girls u met from before know what you are thinkin and they are not like youi. They dont think the same as you do. You want to settle and the girl may want to continue on their life for now. No need to rush for marriage. Rather wait for the right one than marry the wrong one in the futre. Therefore u wont regret it later on =) just have patient. You will evenutally bump into that special someone

Whoa! Back the truck up. Are you reading from a fairy tale? There is no such thing as happily ever after. Marriage is about being together and making compromises and putting the other person first and giving all you have to give and more. It is very hard work and there are going to be good times and some bad times but making commitment means you accept agree to work thru it all. Believing that you will walk off hand in hand into the sunset is for the honeymoon and then you have to come home, go back to work and pay for the honeymoon.

You keep your standards high and you will find the one.It just might take awhile but there are woman out there that would love to have someone like u. Remember that u are going to spend the rest of your life with this person so why wouldn't u have your expectations high? But also u have to remember that the only way u are going to find this person is to have alot of dates with woman. So get out there and date,Theres nothing wrong with dating someone a few times and decideing this is going nowhere and stopping. I wish u all the luck in finding your soul mate.

I think it is rare these days to find men like that. You keep looking for her. If it is meant to be you will know when you meet her. Both my husband and I were that way too and we have been married for over 13+ years now and want to spend our lifetime together. Don't be in a riah to get married no matter your age. Make sure you get along well, like her parents, family, and that you have an engagement period. I wish you the best. There is nothing wrong with wanting that. I think that is awesome. I do think it is romantic and reassuring to hear a man say that. My husband said the same thing when we first met and he caught me with that one-hehe.

I have respect for you. Finally a man who isn't afraid of commitment. But I would advise that you don't jump to conclusions when you meet a woman....I just feel that if you're going to spend the rest of your life with someone, why rush?...take the time to truly get to know each other.

Finding someone comes when you least expect it. I find that people come along when you aren't even looking. Be patient and live your life and be happy....

One day, I wish for a long and happy marriage just as you do.

I think its too good to be true but makes me happy to hear that men are still nice and have feelings. You are definitely not setting your expectations too high. I mean youre looking for a woman to spend the rest of your life with of course they are going to be high. I think that all will work out for you it just hasnt yet because its not you time.

i was like you - i knew that i would only ever marry the once - it took me till I was 32 before I married and I knew the second I met him that this was it !

Marriage has to be worked at to keep you together - young people these days don't stay through the hard times, it's to easy just to move on - but when you do work through them and come out the other end the marriage is so much stronger.

Laughter and fun has to be there throughout - you have to be able to go through whatever life thows at you and not give in.

I think you are all set. You just have to find that special someone and express and show to her how you feel. If you are looking forward to a long, happy marriage you have to find someone that is right, that feels the same way.
