Houses have blown up due to the backing up of sewage fumes. This is not something you want to fool around with.

If you are on public sewer then I would call them now.

If you have a septic system, you should be careful of what chemicals you put down your drain. Bleach and other cleaners can harm the normal operation of your septic system. Check with a professional first.

Check all traps! While many people think the purpose of the trap is to capture jewelry or other objects dropped down the drain, the actual purpose of the trap is to hold water to block sewer or septic gases (and odors) from entering your bathroom. If you have something blocking any trap in your home Oder's will back up.

That may address your odor problem. If the odor persists, however, you may have a more serious problem that requires a professional with the knowledge and tools to correctly diagnose and fix it.

Hope this helps!

Too much chemical solutions and would still not do the job, might as well change apartment and get a clean bathroom. Sometimes, the sewer might be clogged and needs to be check, the reason why the smell still stays. Another thing to check is the exhaust pipe which may be clogged too. This is one big problem to solve. Get a sack of charcoal to suck the bad smell, disinfect the walls, ceiling and flooring and all fixtures, change the rug, (stripped the flooring, it may be underneath it... its a major work. Call a plumber to see if there is any leak or clogs from the pipes and exhaust pipes. Put regular incense to cleanse the walls of past odors.... the odor should be coming from another source.. check cracks on the flooring and walls, have it sealed... if chemicals cant do it, it must be a structural defect that needs to be altered and fixed.

Is it the bowel or the water in the bowel? If it's the toilet bowel, any supermarket tablets should work. If it's the water, like from a septic tank or well, you should deodorize the water in the tank before it comes into the bowel. There are some blue colored tank deodorizer tablets at the supermarket that work really well with this. And of course, keep your toilet bowel clean.

If it's normally clean, are you maybe smelling sewage? If you are, it might mean that wax ring seal under the toilet is bad. We just replaced ours last year, and it made a world of difference. My husband and I did it ourselves in about an hour. And it's cheaper than calling a plumber!
