This freedom loving British Government are proposing legislation so that local authority officials/government officials can enter your house to evaluate any improvements you may have made to your home, failure to co-operate with these people will mean £1000 fine and a further £200 per day until you comply. There is even talk of rating for tax purposes the view from your windows! This proposed legislation is for ,surprise,surprise.....tax purposes. Any body still not believe that'1984' has not arrived ? The government are of course in denial of the proposal.

They can already send Bailiffs round to evaluate your belongings if you fall behind with your (extortionate) Council tax, and "seize" them if you can't keep up the payment arrangement.

Whats new? British people being robbed of their rights and dignity and privacy? Yeah tell me something I DON'T know!

how do know about this? as there has been nothing in the media? is this only in England or is it in Scotland too.please explain how they can tax your view from your window? also how can they tax the improvements that you have made to your home.? any improvements that are done correctly may put the value of your property up. but this can only be valued when your home or homes of a similar style are up for sale. the property market puts the value on homes, which in turn the council puts council tax bands on.if you know this is going to happen leak it to the press.

I believe that legislation is wrong, cause no one has the right to enter your house for any reason, in England as well as in any other civilized country in the world..☺

One of the 'improvements' we made in our revolution was to bar government entries without warrant. 'The House is the Englishman's Castle' we (no longer Englishmen) proclaimed self-righteously.

Are they REALLY going to do this?

And to Kathy W. above, they have to show probable cause and get a warrant or be in 'hot pursuit' etc to enter your house. Yes they raise taxes on 'material improvements' but they get the info from your contractor permits filed and by sending you inquiry letters under penalty of perjury.

I am not against them getting the information, I am against their entry without warrant.

Nobody enters my home without permission from me or a warrant! I refuse to fill out census forms and I have as little contact with any form of government as possible. I think this proposal is ridiculous and very Orwellian. Fight for your right to privacy,,it's your property!

Its offensive and invasive and quite frankly none of their business.
Don't enter without a good reason to the homeowner. Especially if you dont owe a lein on your property.

And to make matters even more interesting the poor bristish subjects have been stripped of their right to own arms and defend themselves. Heil Hitler should become their form of greeting.

I would object. Does that mean people who trash their home get a discount? Britain has gone mad. I'm glad I left.

Absolute shocker, we are treated more and more like a commodity, or worse still a herd to be managed, everyday.

That's how it's done in the U.S. and I think it's fair. If you do something that makes your home more valuable, you have to budget to give the government an amount based on that value, and you have to agree to show it to them. How do you think they pay for schools, roads and trash collection?
