Acetylene is a gas at room temperatures. It can be made by reacting calcium carbide (a solid) with water, at room temperatures. This was used for the old fashioned type of miner's lamp.
Acetylene is also sold in pressure tanks, but the tanks also contain another material, which has an affinity for acetylene and absorbs it under pressure, This makes it much safer to handle, and greatly reduced the chance of a serious fire or explosion due to a leak.
I suggest you contact a welder's supply house for more information, in that they deal with acetylene in this form and can give you all the safety rules and regulations. If you plan to work with acetylene in any form, this would be a wise precaution.

Nope, acetylene is a gas. In cylinders, it is infused into a fabric material, maybe that's what made you think it is a solid.

that would be great as it is more potent than c4 explosives . inside the cylinder acetylene is dissolved in a liqud called acetone and stored . otherwise the very compression will cause it to explode.. very dangerous gas it is and dont play with it .

It's a gas. The molecule is tiny, and it has lots of pi-bonds, so the boiling point is very low.
