In math two negatives do make a positive I don't know if it does apply to life, in some cases we will respect somebody that we know is equal or stronger than us. Alot of people don't do it that way and they don't know good sportsmanship so it's better to not even try it.

In the interactions of individuals, revenge is never good, as it may breed more retaliation, and it becomes an endless circle.
In your comment you mention wars. Now, we're talking countries and politics. Is it really justice? Or is it revenge?
Let's reduce a war to a smaller scale: my neighbor has a gun, and I'm afraid he will shoot me one day. He already destroyed my fence, so I know he's aggressive. So, I go into his house, kill him, and leave some food for his wife and kids.
That does not look like justice to me. Who am I to take it into my own hands?
I know that in international or global wars, there is really no authority we could go to, to have a country "arrested". The UN could put up some sanctions, but that wouldn't immobilize the country. It could still remain a threat. But you know what? The US, having nuclear weapons at disposal, is considered a threat by other countries!
If someone points a gun to your head and says, "Drop your weapon", would you? Especially, knowing that this person already killed someone?
On the grand scale, war on terrorism may sound like we're seeking justice, but you can't seek justice if you don't know WHO your enemy is.
As for other wars, again, it may seem like pursuit of justice, but it's a matter of perception, and to me, that's revenge.
If someone starts a war, fight back to defend yourself and don't let it happen again. Killing can't be the only way to ensure that.

Two wrongs never make a right, so in theory, revenge doesn't really help; it only causes more trouble.
It leads to possibly getting yourself in trouble too, and most of the time, it doesn't make anyone feel any better; it only makes them feel worse in their conscience.
There are much better ways to approach a situation than revenge. Normally many of the things people want revenge for could be settled out by talking to the person or ignoring the incident.

AH, but in the mind of one who is afflicted with revenge, it's the best solution in the world. Any person in the right state of mind can say that yes, revenge is wrong. But to a person in that state of mind...well, we've all seen how hard it is to talk someon out of it.

Of course, it never helps and it destroy you actually if you keep on thinking about revenge.
God gave each one a spirit fueled by energy to keep us alive. All our activities in life are recorded in our spirit (good or bad).
When you offer everything to God you are well alive with the brightness of your spirit.
When hatred/revenge dominates your mind,body,spirit...you`re spirit energy are depleting till nothing left...and your spirit goes out of your body, and you`re 1/2 dead, and wasted.
Take my advice...it`s the truth!

I would think most people agree with you. That does not mean they are going to act according to their professed beliefs. Civilization continues to do the the dumbest, despicable things that belie reason. But we do not always act with reason only. Emotion has a much better appeal.

If you live in a world of reputation...revenge is a necessity. But, thank your gods I don't live in a world of reputation, or I'd have killed each and every one of you Mother F&%$ers.
