At the Haunted Mansion does the room that goes down use an elevator, or is it an optical illusion?

It is in the opening sequence of the Disney World version, where the voice is talking, and the head paintings have legs and bodies. Is it an optical illusion, an elevator, or do they raise the ceilling?

It uses an elevator.

There is a lot of lighting when you first get in, so you cannot see the things at the top of the elevator. Once it starts to go down, the top remains in position, the lights go out and you can see more of the decor.

If you notice, you do exit through a different door than you come in... and there are actually two different rooms with the same thing. The exit is in different places depending on which elevator you get into.

it's an elevator and lol it used to be my favorite ride when i was little i love that one and yea the "paintings" strech actually it goes down so u can see more wall..... then the lightning and u have to back away and go into the "dead" center of the room so u odnt feel the elevator as much moving but i still do now that i'm older

It depends on which Haunten Mansion you go to.

The one in Disneyland is an elevator that lowers you down.
The one in WDW rises the ceiling.

I perfer the Disneyland version myself.
