I was at the beach a couple days ago, and stayed in the sun for about 6 hours a day, for two days. Today the skin on my face has gone scaly and flaky, on the sides of my nose, my cheeks and my forehead and I've got a date tomorrow! Any quick fixes? I tried using a facial scrub, one of the St Ives ones to get rid of the dead skin cells but it stung my face as soon as I put it on. I've got oily skin but it's clear, no pimples or anything. Please help!

okay you need to put on some vitamin E on your poor skin to help it.. E will help heal your skin.. sorry it feels nasty but put on a bunch and let it soak in and then after a couple hours or something you can wash your face.. even though it feels a little gross if you use it you'll be glad later... none of my friends will trust me on this even when we get back from the beach and i'm the only one with nice skin a week later... lol.. well E is basically the BEST skin care product out there so use it even when you don't have a sunburn.. it helps your skin in a lot of ways... well good luck!!!

ps just get the capsules at the grocery store, the real stuff in the bottle not vitamin E cream or lotion... like 100% E.

Well, that was a bit of a silly thing to do - have you heard of skin cancer. It only take 2 episodes of being badly burnt to increase your chances of getting skin cancer.

Anyway, enough of the lecturing.

The best treatment for most sunburns is time -- given a few weeks, they will heal. Immediate, temporary relief can be obtained by putting a cool, wet towel over the affected area, or taking a cold bath or shower. More severe burns may be treated with burn ointments.

There are numerous topical skin products that are sold over-the-counter to relieve the pain of a sunburn. Many popular products contain aloe, aloe with Lidocane, or vitamin E. In many cases, the application of cold water or ice gives immediate but temporary relief from pain.

Some common household or folk remedies include application of white vinegar and apple cider vinegar, mustard, lavender oil, cold tea, yogurt, St. John's wort, tomatos, almond milk, avocado, or cucumbers to the affected area or areas. These folk remedies are largely untested, and may do more harm than good. St John's wort, for example, is known to cause photosensitivity leading to increased susceptibility to sunburns in situations that would not normally cause them Such topical treatments aside, the pain from a sunburn can be treated with an analgesic such as acetaminophen or ibuprofen.

Peeling sunburns are usually accompanied by itching. Allergy medications such as Benadryl are effective at stopping the itch

Yeah. The top of my shoulders and neck have really caught it today, I didn't even realise I had til my husband pointed it out. Now it hurts like hell! I caught it just hanging the washing out! For Suzanne's information, sunburned OR sunburnt are both derivatives of sunburn (adjective). Look it up in the dictionary. Perhaps she should get her facts right before she goes correcting everyone else, being that she is wrong!!

My boyfriend got really sun burnt out on the lake this summer, and his mom made some black tea, let it cool, and he used it on his skin. It really helped. There are tons of things like: mix 2 tps of tomato juice & 4 tbs of buttermilk - apply for 1/2 hr. Or plain mayonaisse for a 1/2 hour with a cottonball. Mix equal amounts of olive oil & vinegar..... oooh - check out cosmeticsdiary.com/sunburn-home-remedy.htm
You'll find good stuff there!

You could try Aloe Vera. It worked on me before. It may heal slowly. Sorry if this doesn't work.
