Depends which airline you flying with. I used to work for bmi and could get away with checking in 30 minutes before departure, but that was pushing it to the absolute limit. They normally close check-in 45mins before departure, so, as suggested by others, it's a good idea to check in about an hour before departure at the latest.

Ask yourself this. 2 hours early, catch plane arrive one to one and half hours later in Glasgow, then probably travel to destination. approx 4 hours. Driving will get you there quicker, alternatively catch the train. Works out cheaper.
