Lots of people are against it, and lots of people are for it. Hope that answers your question.

I'm for it. Marriage is a bond between two people who love each other. Historically speaking marriage in the sense of 'holy matrimony' didn't exist until the Christian church wanted more influence on the people's morality (somewhere in the middle ages), so they invented the sacred marriage. Marriages did exist before, but they were no more than promises two people made to each other. This could be done with all sorts of ceremonies, but it was not necessary.
The church institutionalized this so they had more influence on people. Before that it wasn't illegal or forbidden to have more wives or more husbands. There are no documents of people of the same sex having a bond like I described, but it was no shame, just normal. There are many Roman, Greek and Arabic books describing love between people of the same sex.
So 'marriage' is nothing holy, it's purely a bond of love, and if people choose to have this, it doesn't matter if they are gay or straight.

From the beginning, in almost every culture, when two people have decided to love each other, forsaking all others, this has been defined as a relationship, which, in modern English, we call marriage. That this institution has been applied to heterosexual couples, almost exclusively, is not an artifact of the rightness, or wrongness of homosexual couples anymore than is the act of love itself. Marriage is not a Christain term: the Jews did it long before Christ. It is not a Jewish term as it was practiced in many cultures and religions other than Judaism.
Christian marriage is a Christian term. While some GLBT folk would like to see all churches accept them, I disagree with that. I would want no part of a church that didn't want me, or wouldn't accept me just as I am.
Civil union can be defined by the classic "separate but equal" statement. The supremem court decided long ago that "separate but equal" is not equal. Marriage is the desired goal; to have our love recognized legally just as is the love by a heterosexual couple.
Some argue that homosexual couples shouldn't be allowed to marry simply because we can't have children; ought sterile heterosexual couples likewise be prohibited from marrying? The only reason for this debate is that there are some religious leaders stirring the pot, saying that homosexual couples are going to pervert the world. I submit that it's those making these comments that are perverting the world, arguing that love for them is god-given, while in a homosexual, it's evil. These are the same that, when praying, and their request comes about, is proof of God, and is a miracle, but if it happens to a Pagan, for instance, is proof that the Pagan religion is false, and of the Devil.
Give it a break people. Love is Love is Love, and ought to be celebrated and respected.

I'm just going to say this. Okay, I'm straight, always have been, always will be. I do not discuss my sex life, good or bad with anyone except my partner. Why? Because it's private and discussing it would take away from the beauty of it. If I were working for a company run by Gay people, and they decided I wasn't doing my job "properly," there's no way in "HELL" I would march up and down the street with signs stating that I was fired because I am STRAIGHT! My "point?" If you don't go around discussing your sexual "preference," you can't even begin to claim it is the REASON you were fired, RIGHT? So why do you?
Why can't you keep your private sexuall preference PRIVATE?
Marriage or otherwise? I don't CARE if you're gay or not, so why tell me or anyone else? There are places you can go to that are specifically to hook up with gays, talk about preferences THERE!
Do "I" believe in Gay marriages? No, but I'm not you, and I'm not GOD, and you don't have to answer to ME! So why do gay people have to use their sexual preference in situations that have NOTHING to do "with" the particular situation they are in? I could go on & on, but you'll defend yourself forever. I don't care if you're married to each other, fine, stay married. But why don't you stay a little more "private" while you're at it? HUH??????

For it. I am an arch Conservative, republican, right wing bigoted bastard. All of that I admit proudly. I also think that there should not be one single law that separates gay, straight and bi people. This world would only improve dramatically if people saw relationships and wished them the best, and could care less about who was in it.

For it. And for the people that think homosexuality is wrong: Newsflash! they don't care what you think. Stopping them from marrying isn't going to stop them loving each other. Marriage shows people's commitments to each others lives, it should be allowed for everyone old enough to understand the commitment. And it also gives legal rights, which they also shouldn't be denied.

I know what marriage is, but since I can't define the line where it isn't (shall we call a love relationship between humans and animals marriage? What about children getting married?), I'd rather just stick to the current definition of man and woman. Besides, marriage is a Christian term. Don't we need to keep church and state separate? Let's call it civil union instead, if anything.

I'm completely FOR gay marriages.
As many others believe, I also believe that people are entitled to love and share their life with whoever they please. Love has no gender; it is not a heterosexual right; it is a privledge; entitled for everyone. Gays and straights alike.

People who think gay people are different from straight people, and should have different rights, are against it.
People who think everyone human should have the same rights are for it.
